March Notes

Time.

Time is so fleeting. As we get older, we all know it moves fast — how do we slow it down? How do you find time in your days for art? As a working person, I am caught all the time with the guilt of housekeeping and getting all my Council and Guild and Community Center/Ed projects done first after working all day. Then sleep. I am finding I way more need sleep than I need art, and I wish it were the other way around. How do you do it? I am asking for your ideas. I have TONS of art projects, but need time. What are your tips and tricks for making it happen? Let me know!

Our board member, Gale Syverson, has stepped down. Gale needs more time, too. Gale has given tremendous amounts of time to our Guild, in various capacities. She will still be an active member, but we relied on her for a few things that now have to move on to others.

  • We need a new liaison for MidCountry Bank, when we make our art swap outs.

  • We need a new person to add to the Art Scholarship Committee.

  • We need someone as a contact for Buffalo Parks and Rec, when our stepping stone project needs assistance between our two groups.

Please consider helping us with this. These are not weekly or monthly, but do need to have someone at the helm. Gale, maybe you can speak to us about these at the next meeting, give us some insight as to the time it takes (there’s that word again.)

The Guild is being run by a very select few. I remind you again, the definition of Guild — an association of people for mutual aid or the pursuit of a common goal. a group of species that have similar requirements and play a similar role within a community. With that in mind, as we transition to doing more with the Community Center, and our permanent move to their new site, we need to assist with doing classes and projects in exchange for being there without cost. I am in need of grant writers, muralists, ideas for classes we will offer. Please reach out--grant writers are a definite need. If you have any experience, please help. I finally got a chance yesterday to visit the current Community Center and got the lowdown on the basics for us to teach classes. Since I know where the light switches are, we can go ahead and start planning. :)

Buffalo days is coming up and I have the rules and regulations for designing the iconic Buffalo Days Button. That will come in a separate email.

There is still time (again, that word) to submit your idea for a logo for the Buffalo Art Guild. You have until March 15th to either mail it to me or email it to me. After that, the board will vote on submissions and the new logo will be on our website and any advertising we do.

Our next meeting is March 17th, St. Patrick’s Day. I personally am not Irish, but isn’t everyone Irish that day?  Hopefully you will be wearing some green and I am sure I can rustle up some Irish treats for us, too. Meredith Johanson will be leading us in an activity involving weaving painted paper to create artwork. Our meeting will be at the Buffalo Municipal Airport starting at 7PM, doors open at 6:30 for social time.

Two of our members have exhibits ongoing right now. Shari Zimmermann has a painting in the Northern Lights Show at the White Bear Center for the Arts. The facility is beautiful and has many ideas for a community art space. The show will be up until March 27.

Emily Holt shared the exciting news of her first art exhibit being held at the Wright County Historical Society in their Community Art Space. There will be a small opening reception, with Emily in attendance, on March 15th from 12-2pm. The show will run until April 18th.

I think that’s all I have “time” for, for now. As always, reach out with any questions or ideas you have for our Guild!

Warm Regards,

Tamra
